Favre injured and Moss being released, wow what a week for the Minnesota Vikings.  Favre was already the topic of conversation this week because of a banged up ankle.  Now he has a laceration on his chin that required ten stitches to close up.  Not only was that a big part of the game last week, but Randy Moss only had one reception for eight yards against his former team, the New England Patriots.  Some previous comments and actions on and off the field has turned out to come back and bite Moss in the ass.  After being released by the Vikings, Moss is jobless.  Also Brad Childress is is on the choping block.  With a 2-5 team that was in the NFC Championship game last year, Childress has a lot of work to do by the end of the year in order to keep his job.

Many people think professional athletes are tall and muscular; this is the typical stereotype of professional athletes.  Well, of course they are muscular because of the strenuous exercise and hard work they do, but not everyone is tall.  For instance, athletes on the NFL have an average height of six feet three inches.  Anything less than six feet is considered short in the NFL; while in the NHL the average height is six feet tall.  The smallest NHL player is five feet seven inches, and the tallest being six feet nine inches.  In the NBA, where height is needed more, the average height is six feet seven inches.  Although being tall in professional sports is the typical stereotype, it may not always be the best.  Such as in the NFL, a running back needs to have a low profile so they can cut through holes and run past defenders.  In the NHL, players like to be short so they can skate faster on the ice and have a lesser chance of being hit.  Although the popular stereotype of professional athletes are that they are tall, does not always mean it’s a good thing. 

Moss Is Back

Randy Moss is back in Minnesota! The Minnesota Vikings traded a third round pick for NFL great Randy Moss.  Moss previously played for the NE Patriots and Oakland Raiders before returning to Minnesota where he was drafted in the first round in 1998.  Moss played in Minnesota for the first seven years of his career here in Minnesota before being traded to Oakland in 2005.  Then, soon after, in 2007 he was traded to the NE Patriots where he played until October 6th, when the NE Patriots traded him back to Minnesota.  I think this will be a great thing for Minnesota.  Although Randy Moss will always be the Randy Moss we know of, he has great play making ability and with a dominant quarterback under center, it should be a great combination.

Calvin Johnson

Considered one of the best wide receivers in the NFL, Calvin Johnson is a beast.  He is 6' 5", 235 pounds, runs a 4.5 40 yd dash in shoes that weren't even his, and has a vertical of 35 inches.  This is the reason why he is Kenny Schaefers hero.  Kenny looks up to this man like most people look up to God.  Although Kenny knows every one's stats in the NFL, he repeats Calvin Johnson's stats like they are going out of style. Rick Powers should give Kenny more homework so he doesn't have as much time to memorize NFL stats.

Narrative

As a volunteer firefighter/ EMT, in my hometown, when ever that pager goes off and you are available to go, you’re obligated to.  So, instead of coming back to La Crosse early in the evening last Sunday, I responded to a fire call of a strong odor of anhydrous.  Soon after we arrived on scene, we noticed a person take off running.  We later found out a man was stealing anhydrous ammonia out of the tanks at the elevator so he could make meth.  The worst part of being a volunteer is putting our lives on the line dealing with these strong chemicals that some ignorant person is using for drugs.  In the apparatus we were in, the seats are in a line, all four of us.  So we were unable to put our air packs on inside the truck where it was safest.  I had to get out of the truck, in the strong fumes, to put my air pack on.  I know for myself I had a major headache for about eight hours after and I was only in the fumes for 30 seconds at the most.  For some firefighters they were in the fumes longer.  Residents need to understand what we as firefighters have to deal with before they set arson fires or try stealing toxic chemicals. 

Week 1

A lot has happened this week in sports. College football has started and there are already changes in the BCS polls.  Also, there is still controversy over Reggie Bush and his 2005 Heisman trophy, which may be stripped f him.  In golf, the "captains" pick for the Ryder's cup was chosen, and it was Tiger Woods and Rickie Fowler.  In NFL news, Donovan McNabb is healthy and ready to go after suffering an ankle injury during the preseason.  Also, the NFL season opens up this weekend with the first game being Thursday night when the Minnesota Vikings take on the New Orleans Saints in a rematch of the 2009 NFC title game.  In conclusion, a lot has happened this week in sports especially with the start of college football as well as the NFL starting this weekend.
